Backus and Hartford HealthCare to explore affiliation

Backus Corporation and Hartford HealthCare Corporation have jointly announced that they are exploring a formal affiliation of the two healthcare systems.

The two organizations entered into a non-binding Letter of Intent, beginning a process that is expected to take several months. If successful, Backus would become a member of the Hartford HealthCare network, which includes Hartford Hospital, the Hospital of Central Connecticut, MidState Medical Center, Natchaug Hospital, Windham Hospital and a wide spectrum of additional pre- and post-acute health services.

Hartford Hospital Marks Surgery Milestone: 5000th Robotic Surgery

Pioneer robotic surgeon Dr. Joseph “Peppie” Wagner performed Hartford Hospital’s 5000th robotic surgery February 2nd at 8:30 am. The patient, Litchfield native Daniel Clock is recovering well. In 2003, Dr. Wagner brought robotic surgery to Hartford Hospital, which became the first hospital in Connecticut to bring the da Vinci Surgical System into the operating room.

Hansen Medical Selects Hartford Hospital as Center of Excellence for Sensei X Robotic Catheter System

Hartford Hospital has been selected by Hansen Medical, a pioneer in flexible robotics and robotic technology, to be a Center of Excellence for the Sensei X Robotic Catheter System. This means experienced doctors will now be able to provide training to electro physiologists across the world in flexible robotics in an electrophysiology laboratory setting.

Helen & Harry Gray Cancer Center Accredited by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons

The Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons has granted Three-Year Accreditation with Commendation to Hartford Hospital’s Helen & Harry Gray Cancer Center. The accreditation program sets quality-of-care standards for cancer programs and reviews the programs to ensure they conform to those standards. Accreditation is given only to those facilities that provide the highest level of quality cancer care, and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance. To maintain accreditation, facilities with CoC-accredited cancer programs must undergo an on-site review every three years.

Sleep Specialist Joins Hartford Hospital

Patrick J. Troy, M.D. joins Hartford Hospital as a pulmonologist, specializing in sleep disorders. In this role, he will treat common and complex sleep issues such as sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy and parasomnias (e.g. sleep walking).
