Family Resource Center
Young Adult Services
A Service for Families and Friends Dealing with Severe and Persistent Mental Health Problems
The Family Resource Center (FRC) is the hub of The Institute of Living’s Schizophrenia Initiative. The FRC has available three main services.
- First, to provide educational, supportive, and outreach services to families who are dealing with a schizophrenia spectrum disorder (SSD). Programs include the Potential Early Psychosis Program and the Young Adult Services/Intensive Outpatient Program.
- Secondly, the FRC offers an accessible and user friendly, comprehensive source of information on the disorder, its treatment, and what community resources are available to help families’ better cope with the impact of the SSD on their lives. This information is housed at The Institute of Living and enables family members, consumers, and professionals to drop in and utilize written, Internet, and staff members’ expertise.
- Finally, the FRC provides for the training and development of staff who work with SSD. As part of this the FRC integrates its work with that of the other parts of the Initiative to develop models of practice which will improve the care of patients.
